Ivano Stocco

biography

Ivano Stocco’s paintings are inspired by the architectural forms, the people, and colours of the everyday urban environment. He is interested in how to see and experience the world poetically in sub-optimal conditions and in imagery that is not necessarily straightforward to characterize, such as that depicting “middle grounds” where nature and human culture come together and intersect.

Perhaps unusually for a full-time artist, Ivano holds a B.Sc. (Computer Science, University of  Guelph), an M.A. (History, York University), and a B.Ed. (Senior/Intermediate Education, University of Toronto). He studied painting and drawing in various stages in Spain, where he won numerous national and regional awards for his works done en plein air.

His art can be found in public and private collections in Australia, Britain, Canada, Italy, Spain, and the United States.

Raised in Guelph, Ontario, he currently resides in Los Angeles with his spouse and their two daughters, but returns frequently to Guelph where he maintains a studio.
